Commissions & trade
A work made for one room
A lacquer panel to a wall's width. A screen for a particular light. A set of twelve bowls for a long table. Most of the artisans we work with take a few commissions a year, and we carry the conversation between you and the workshop — with photographs at every stage.
How it goes
Four letters, one crate
I
The conversation
You tell us what the room needs. We reply within three days with which artisan we would ask, and why.
II
The proposal
A sketch or sample from the workshop, a fixed price, and a season. Half is paid to begin; the artisan receives it the same week.
III
The making
Letters from the village as it progresses — the fourth coat, the first firing, the moon before it is buried. You can change your mind early; late, you can only watch.
IV
The crate
Final photographs, the balance, and the work leaves Hà Nội insured door to door, with its provenance card inside the lid.

The trade programme
For projects that need twenty bowls, a wall of panels, or a craft the client has not met yet. We work with studios on specification, sampling and lead times, and we introduce you to the workshop directly when the project calls for it.
