01 — The maker
Two wooden looms, behind the shops
The grandmother wove for the last court; the family has kept her looms and her pattern cards — chrysanthemum, cloud, the character for longevity — and still reels and twists thread by hand in the courtyard.
Their silk is the ground Quất Động’s embroiderers ask for, and the scarves we carry are dyed in small vats in the village, so no two are quite the same.
02 — The works
Two works from the bench
03 — Commission
The workshop weaves to order
A length in a colour, a set of scarves, a ground for an embroidery commission. Tell us what you have in mind and we will carry the conversation to the loom. Four to eight weeks from thread to crate.
A letter from Vạn Phúc
“Your colour is in the vat. It came out a shade deeper than the sample; I think you will prefer it.”
