Portrait of Phạm Văn Đức, sixth-generation potter in his fifties, standing at the open brick kiln door in Bát Tràng, clay on his forearms, sixth generation of the family trade

Phạm Văn Đức

Potter · Bát Tràng village · Sixth generation

Two cups thrown thin, glazed in the family celadon and fired in reduction for a day; chosen from the load as a pair by Đức, who matches them by the depth of the green rather than by the crackle, which no two share.

For tea taken slowly. The crackle opens as the cup cools and takes on colour over years.
