Filigree cuff, silver
Đậu bạc — “silver beans”: filigree built thread by thread and finished with tiny granules at the joins, the signature of Định Công.

Đinh Văn Hùng
Silver drawn through a plate of ever-smaller holes until it is a thread finer than a hair, twisted two strands together and rolled flat, then built into the pattern inside a frame — thread by thread, soldered with a mouth-blown flame — and finished with the tiny granules the village calls silver beans.
Nothing here is cast. Every curve was laid by hand, which is why the cuff is light enough to forget and strong enough to wear every day.

The making
Three weeks, in four movements
Filigree is done at a scale the eye can barely follow, with wire, a very small flame, and patience.
I
The wire
Silver drawn through smaller and smaller holes until it is a thread.
II
The twist
Two threads twisted together and rolled flat, for the rope-like edge.
III
The frame
The pattern built inside a silver frame, thread by thread, and soldered.
IV
The beans
Granules set at every join; the cuff polished and stamped inside the clasp.
